52 smells
Since losing my sense of smell I was researching the memory of smell and my perception of it. Our olfactory system plays an important role in connection with our memories as well as our emotions and that inspired me to write down a list of memories as well as smells of emotions. Living without the sense of smell made me feel isolated so this installation was connecting with it through memories.
The reason why I chose stone as a material for this installation is because it in contrast to metal, wood or other materials doesn’t have a particular scent so I wanted to use it as a material that is the closest to my current condition of not smelling.
Stone is as solid as our memories of all scents.
This installation was created during the EcoSuites Tristinika beach Artist residency in Greece, curated by Alex A. Tsolakis.
